The book “Camera Lucida: Reflections on Photography” is one of the last works by the eminent French philosopher and semiotician, Roland Barthes. In this treatise, the author reflects on the essence of photography, its ontological characteristics, and its effect on the viewer. Barthes explores the phenomenon of photography through personal experience, analyzing snapshots from his family archive and examining the concepts of “studium” and “punctum” as two ways of perceiving a photographic image.
