On the bicentennial anniversary of Argentina's independence, the publishing house 'Ves Mir' timed the Russian edition of this book by the outstanding Argentine historian, journalist, writer, and poet Félix Luna. The author of numerous works on the history of his country, Luna wrote this relatively short volume, not intending to provide a detailed description of Argentine history. His main goal was to study the history of the Argentine people's formation and to identify the key trends in the historical development of this young and energetic nation. Luna’s book vividly characterizes the historical self-awareness of the Argentines—the most 'European' of the Latin American peoples—who have nevertheless acquired their own unique character and identity. The afterword to the book was written by V.P. Kazakov, a renowned Russian expert and Doctor of Historical Sciences specializing in Argentine history.
