This book is a collection of two novels by the famous Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa. The first novel, Captain Pantoja and the Special Service, tells the story of a Peruvian army officer who is tasked with organizing a special service of prostitutes to satisfy the sexual needs of soldiers in remote Amazonian garrisons. The second novel, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, describes the semi-autobiographical story of a young radio journalist who falls in love with his divorced, significantly older aunt—set against the background of his relationship with a prolific author of radio serials.
