We named this collection by the Polish prose writer Bruno Schulz (1892–1942) 'The Remnants'—an SS bullet ended the writer’s life and destiny right there on the street... A suitcase full of manuscripts, entrusted by Schulz to someone reliable, vanished forever... What remained were 'The Cinnamon Shops' and 'Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass,' published before World War II. Four novellas were discovered in journals... This was enough for the astonishing inspiration of the Galician genius to utterly astound readers worldwide.
