Dead Souls

The poem «Dead Souls» was translated into many other languages even during the author’s lifetime. It had incredible success. Nobody before or after Gogol managed to describe the vices and weaknesses of the Russian person so vividly and acutely, or to reflect the most important problems for Russia so lively and truthfully. 160 years have passed, and the poem sounds as if it were just written.
