Butterflies and Chrysanthemums

This publication is addressed both to fans of Japanese art and to those who have not yet had the chance to become acquainted with it amidst the daily bustle. The book is structured into four sections—four seasons. It features classical Japanese prints from the Hermitage collection (by famous masters such as Ando Hiroshige, Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and Utagawa Kunisada) alongside classical haiku (three-line verses) and tanka (five-line verses) poetry by poets of the IX–XIX centuries, including Ryōkan, Issa, Bashō, and Ki no Tsurayuki, presented in magnificent translations by A. Dolin, V. Markova, A. Gluskina, and T. Sokolova-Delyusina.
